The Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company has served the community for the past 112 years and looks forward to many more years of providing fire and medical services at no charge to area residents, businesses and visitors. In 2009, PVFC responded to more than 3,500 emergency calls, a volume that puts a significant strain on our emergency vehicles.
On Monday night November 14, 2011, the Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company proudly placed into service the new Medic 325 advanced life support ambulance to protect the Pikesville community and surrounding region. And two minutes after going in service, Medic 325 responded on its first call, for a non-emergency, sick subject.
Medic 325 annually is one of the busiest medic units (career or volunteer) in Baltimore County, with more than 1,880 calls for medical assistance during 2010. The new ambulance, a 2011 Ford F450 4WD / Lifeline, was built at the Lifeline plant in Sumner, Iowa and sold to PVFC by dealer Diamond State Ambulance Inc. in Newark, Delaware. The unit replaces a 2003 Ford E450 Super Duty/Lifeline which had more than 115,000 miles, often driven under harsh conditions, and answered more than 13,000 calls for emergency medical service in the past seven years. That ambulance had been out of service for about seven months and PVFC had been using a reserve medic unit from the Baltimore County Fire Department. The new state-of-the-art ambulance, which will be officially dedicated in February during the company banquet, will cost approximately $200,000.
